Lighting Types

Miller Landscape offers several types of low voltage landscape lighting systems.  These systems utilize 12 volt electrical instead of the 120 volts delivered by regular household current. The 12-volt systems do not require an electrician and they allow  for fixtures to be added and adjusted while the system is plugged in and turned on.  This is very helpful in helping our customers visualize the lighting effects we are suggesting.

Within the category of low voltage systems,  we install 3 types:
  • Traditional halogen lighting
  • LED lighting
  • Fiber optic lighting
Whatever system you choose, the design uses for outdoor landscape lighting are many:
  • Up-lighting to provide ambient light in the living areas or along perimeters
  • Down-lighting to provide targeted light from above for focal points
  • Step lighting to safely guide guests to various levels of the landscape
  • Underwater lighting to add drama to ponds and waterfalls
  • Railing lighting to provide subtle definition to deck spaces
  • Path lighting to draw guests into the different areas of the landscape
  • Wall washers to cast a gentle glow over building exteriors or perimeter plantings
  • Pillar lights to add dimension to modular concrete features in the landscape
  • Silhouette lighting to provide dramatic accents by casting light behind specific design elements
A tastefully illuminated landscape adds significant curb appeal to any property, provides extended hours of enjoyment and also serves as a deterrent for would-be intruders.

LED Lighting
LED LightingAlthough newer to the market, their many advantages have made these systems increasingly popular for both residential and commercial use.  LED lighting systems offer cost efficiency, environmental benefits and more versatility than traditional low voltage, incandescent outdoor lighting.

There are many color choices with an LED system and there are even programmable features to create theme lighting for special events. LED landscape lighting lasts longer than incandescent lighting. High-quality outdoor LED lights will last for up to 30 years. They generally cost more to buy, but many customers find that their ability to last, as well as their lower operating costs, outweighs the initial higher price.  Our Holiday Lighting Team highly recommends the use of LED lighting strands.

Because LED lights are also smaller than traditional lighting options they allow for many more design choices.  LED landscape lighting is also the greenest choice available because it uses less power and creates less waste.  You can even add color [and a remote control, if you like] to enable you to program a color scheme for parties, holidays and other celebrations.  Wow  your guests  on the next Fourth of July!

Fiber Optic Lighting
Fiber optic lighting has provided our customers with an exciting landscape lighting option, particularly in the area of lighting water features.  Because the fixtures are tiny [about the size of a ball point pen cap,] they are very easy to place and hide in and around a pond or waterfall.  These tiny fixtures are powered by an illuminator [a light source/bulb,] which is located in an enclosed box, outside of the pond, in an easily accessible location.  This makes any bulb changes a breeze.  Multiple "end points" or fixtures can be illuminated by just one light bulb by means of the fiber optic cables that connect them to the source.  Since no heat or electricity travels through these cables, they are safe for many environments...and fish!

For a bit of fun, you can also add color to your fiber optic lighting system.  A simple wheel allows you to choose one color or rotate between several colors.  It's quite a captivating view to enjoy.
